A gray day, the morning sun or the beauty of twilight and the infinitesimal gradations of the sun s reflected colors in the sky and sea are an on going challenge to interpret my visual world upon the flat surface . I also enjoy painting a variety of subjects, including animals. Light and color are the essence of my work. Painting by color differences, I continue to strive to see how a particular light affects the world, depending on the light conditions and relationships between the light and the shadow areas and how they come together to create the illusion of the subject.. I am multi-dimensional as my art; creative, moody, sincere, courageous and I enjoy humor. My varied art forms balance my painting, from the visual beauty of illusion, to the reality of objects in assemblage, beading and crystals in jewelry or designing t-shirts, faux wall or whimsical painting on furniture. I love making art with people and have worked across the lifespan with pre-school and elementary art camps, guest artist at elementary schools Fine Arts Day , middle school after school art program, art making with mentally and physically challenged adults, decorative furniture painting, mosaics and collage with seniors and decorative furniture painting and faux wall design at the college level. Over the years I have found that time is short, love fiercely, be in touch with loved ones, do community service and live each day to the fullest. Living an art full life is always in the process of becoming; more willing, determined, forgiving and curious, to expand my art, creativity and dreams to explore all possibilities. Creativity, imagination and community are important in my life. Each day is an experience in art making. Variety is the spice of life and I am fortunate to use my artistic endeavors in a variety of ways! Artist Statement I have been creating art all my life and have been in love with color as far back as I can remember. Over time I have become a multi dimensional artist of various art forms. I cannot be neatly placed a box or category. Light and color are the essence of my work; in oil painting first and foremost, and also creating beaded jewelry using crystals, fanciful hand-painted furniture, color photography and t-shirt design. I am a plein air painter some liken to impressionistic realism, an abstract painter and creator of three dimensional assemblage using found objects. I am inspired by nature and light, a constant metamorphous in color differences between the light and shadow areas. I primarily use a palette knife, building upon layers, allowing for the subtle color changes in large masses, which seems to be a never ending search. I am fortunate to live by the ocean where my art takes on some of it s attributes; one day, calm as glass and another it feels like a wild crashing wave. I am committed to making art that is daring, courageous and beautiful. I like to think of my art as healing images, words, patterns, color and light that support s and nutures me and perhaps gives the viewer peace, wonder and hope.
